Sangiran
is located in the depression of Solo in the nort west slope of Mouth Lawu(about 17 km from Solo,Central Java).
The existence of Sangiran gives a depiction about the life of prehistoric people. it is the most complete hominid site in Java based in the stratrigraphy poin of view.The area is about 56 square kilometers which stretches in Sragen Regency, namely Kecamatan Gemolong,Kalijambe,and Plupuh.And one district in Karanganyar Regency , namely Kecamatan Gondangrejo
Sangiran becomes the most important site for the devolepment of knowledge, such as for anthropology,archeology, biology, paleoanthropology, geology and tourism as well.In Sangiran we can learn to prehistoric people completed by human fossil,cultural productof mankid, animal and flora fossil.Sangiran is also crossed by beautiful river called"Kali Cemoro" which is a brach of Bengawan Solo river.Because the river was eroded,the stratum of clay appeared on the surface and could be distinguished from another.Many human and animal fossil were found in this area
The Sangiran site becomes the part of important pre historic human civilization site, for human evolution.Therefore ,Sangiran site is categorized as cultural world heritage number 593 by UNESCO on Desember 5th.1996 in Merida ,Mexico.
The research in Sangiran was firstly conducted by Eugene Debois in 1891 a Frech anthropology that discovered fossil of "Phitecanthropus Erectus" or java man.Then in 1936 A german anthropology named G.H.R Koenigswald doing researched n he trained people how to identify and manage the fossil professionaly.
He discovered Mandible(lower jaw) of hominid fossil for for the first time,a year later he found a cranium in the edge of Cemoro river,Kalijambe
Nowadays there are fifty human fossil that have been discovered in Sangiran sited.the taxonomy of Homo Erectus experienced three stagesof evolution, they are Homo Erectus Archaic(firmer),Homo Erectus Tipik(slimmer),and Homo Erectus Progessive.
The most amazing thing of Sangiran site is that we can observe the greatest unbroken layers of stratigraphy from the last Pliocente era until middle Pleistocente for about two million to 250.000 years ago.Write your abstract here.
