Teacher as a
facilitator. First and foremost, I would like to
share that I am very fond of the word –Facilitator. A teacher, I feel is just that. In today’s world, children look for comradeship and I, from my little experience feel that they come forward with their difficulties more often when they know that a teacher is accessible. So, the discussion that a teacher makes a
student what he is, is irrelevant. They work together towards a common goal, that is, walk on the path of discovery.
Student to a Teacher
Don’t walk in front of me,
I might not follow.
Don’t walk behind me,
I may not lead
Walk along with me,
And together we will succeed.
I think this sums it all.
2. To teach is to learn twice. A teacher’s perhaps also lives her life all over again in the aspirations of her student. As long as this is within limits and doesn’t push the student beyond his or her capability, it’s alright. It is a fine relationship, it is, that which exists between a teacher and a student.
3. Anger Management. In my opinion a teacher who loses his/her
temper has lost half the battle. It is not that I have never lost my temper in class ever. There are so many circumstances when a little frustration does shows its ugly head. What is more important is to make the children sitting in front understand that this anger is for their benefit. Lose your temper but give a very good excuse for it. It is always a very good idea to give a joint show down to the whole class, thereby generalising the issue. In case of individual scolding, take the problem out of the classroom.
I read this piece somewhere and want to share it.
You will discover that in nearly every class there is a youngster eager to argue. Your first impulse will be to silence him. I advise you to think carefully. He may be the only one listening!!
4. Tremendous
Responsibility. The teaching fraternity morally holds a great responsibility towards the moulding the future, to arrowhead the path for the young supple minds to follow. I conclude:
In every child who is born
Under any circumstance
And no matter of what parents.
The potentiality of human race is born again
And in him too,
Once more, and in each of us,
A terrific responsibility
Towards human race.
-James Ayce.
This thought gives me a lot of power as I go to school every day and renews in me the strength to work, no matter what the odds.
