This article is about Christian author, Janette Oke. Janette Oke was born in Canada during the depression years to Canadian
prairie farmers. Her childhood was full of love and laughter and family-oriented. She brings these qualifications to the novels she writes. She writes of real family values and honest love in a simplistic style. She graduated from Mountain View Bible College where she met Edward, her husband. They pastured several churches in Canada and the United States and had a family of four. While very young, Janette had a desire to write, but did not actually start writing seriously until her children were in their teenage years. Her first novel, ‘Love Comes Softly,' was published in 1979. Seventy-five others would follow this one. Her novels have a foundation of a strong faith in God and are suitable for any age. Her writing is simple enough to be understood by young teens, and yet be enjoyable for adults as well. She is known worldwide and has had her novels translated into fourteen different languages. Some of her novels include ‘When Calls the Heart,' ‘When Comes the Spring,' ‘When Breaks the Dawn,' ‘When Hope Springs New,' ‘Beyond the Gathering Storm,' and ‘When Tomorrow Comes.' Some of the youth and children's books she has written include ‘I Wonder...Did Jesus Have a Pet Lamb?', ‘Roses for Mama,' ‘Heart of the Wilderness,' and ‘ The Bluebird and the Sparrow.' She also has an animal friends series which includes ‘The Impatient Turtle,' ‘The Prodigal Cat,' and ‘ This Little Pig.' Janette's books are published at Bethany House.
