From the title itself, pre-historic
art, it means art already existed during the preliterate events, or the time when people don't use writing and reading as their medium of communication. According to wikipedia.org, there are five periods which proves the different styles of art. These are the Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze age, and the Iron age. During the Paleolithic period, there were cave
paintings and portable arts (figurines and animal carvings). Some believed that only Homo sapiens are capable of expressing their arts, but then Homo erectus already has evidences of patterns and other works of art. The Mesolithic period has some untitled rock paintings because of their paintings on pebbles, they even have patterns on utilitarian objects. When the Neolithic period came, clay figures and vessels were the people's passion. They included in their work some patterns and made the wet clay with braided or non-braided cord. It was in Europe during the third millenium B.C. that the Bronze age began. The rock
artworks in the past periods were improved, included in their arts were their daily lives and religious rituals. The Iron Age then emerged, bringing to fad the geometric and abstract designs made by the artists. In this art the division of classes were initiated and the formal etiquette existed and spread in Europe. Today our society uses formal etiquette and rules according to the
culture approves. Maybe art in the past was one of the reasons why civilizations emerged which throws away any form of chaos that might remain. Is it possible? I think so.
