The Sheraton Tower Suites: Away from the bustle and tensions of the ever-changing world outside, these apartment-like
suites are the epitome of private luxury, where one is able to find refuge in a serene environment shaped by a celebration of the senses activated by the perception of harmony and beauty. The designers have managed to capture the essence of blissful comfort, personalizing each space with extraordinary attention to detail. All the tower suites have double height interiors with the main living spaces on the lower level and the more private spaces and sleeping quarters in the upper level. Each suit has a distinctive design scheme giving it an individual character; yet despite these apparent differences all share the same basic
colour palette and a definite aura of reserved serene quality felt as one walks through from one space and into the other absorbing the rich range of colour tones, finishes and textures. The bare dimly lit snug entrance lobby does little to prepare one for the excitement that lies beyond as it opens up onto the larger main space of the suite. The overall colour scheme is based on sombre tones of beige and cream complemented with pistachio green. Earth tones lead this palette; restful, subtle tones of beige, cream, grey and brown tinged with gold and copper possess an intrinsic timeless beauty. Stone, iron, wood and glass are the main materials used, stone standing out prominently and boldly throughout on the floors, stairs, counter tops and walls. The hardness of finishes offered by these materials is honed down by the soft furnishings. Luxurious fabrics with unusual pattern, weave and texture fill the place; cushions scattered here and there introducing colour accents. Judging by appearance and texture, silk is abundantly used in different weaves; layered, patterned, organza, plain and rough. The fabrics used are of such quality that discovering the beauty of each element by feeling, touching and generally sensing makes this in itself a sensuous experience. The designers were able to capture the magic of the ocean, taking cue from the panoramic oceanic view that seeps gently into the interior from all angles. Given the height of these suites the ocean and its horizon form a strong but unobtrusive landscape to the interior setting. Harmony achieved between all the elements of the interiors stimulates the senses and one feels the opulence within before actually seeing it. At a closer look each and every piece is a work of art with intricate details and distinct character, yet surprisingly, amid all these varied elaborations, the elements of this extensive assemblage play together in a tune of perfect harmony. Stepping into the lobby of one suite, a spiral staircase winds upwards away from sight. A circular service bar space carved out of the space under stairs appears as one steps down the three steps into the open plan space that wraps around the stairwell. On one side is the dining space, on the other the sitting area. Polished hard flooring broken by lush rugs define each space. Period style furniture is dotted here and there in varying formations giving a general classic contemporary look and feel of luxury usually associated with antique furniture. The upholstery fabrics are lavish and not at all standardized nor repetitive, but different in tone, pattern and texture. Glass accessories such as vases, ashtrays and unusual ornaments are laid out to complement the composition. Contemporary paintings spot the walls in neat arrangements. Lighting fixtures come in a variety of shapes and forms giving one control over the mood of the space and allowing selective lighting to transform the space. Most eye-catching are the side-table lamps of different period styles and the wall hung lights hidden behind interesting designs associated with mirrors and pictures. Moving up the stairs the space takes on a different perspective and the huge chandelier hung on the
ceiling is appreciated closely at eye-level. The ceiling recesses finished in coppery hues with hidden lights give a golden shine when lit transforming the whole scene. The gallery looking down onto the lower level is furnished informally with different arrangements and designer seating: curved here and angled there. The main bedroom has walls clad in patterned fabric of satiny matte weave, probably silk damask. A four poster wood and metal bed dressed in silk baldachin and wrapped in silk organza casually wound around the top, sits comfortably in the centre in front of a large TV unit. A chaise longue lies casually on one side. The bathrooms are a delight and the bath experience promises to be an adventure. Bath spaces come in different shapes and areas finished in stone, luscious marble, relief pattern wallpaper and mirrors. More like a room for bathing, this bath has a large jacuzzi flanked on either side by a spacious walk-in shower and a seperate toilet space. Frosted glazing partitions the shower. The shower floor is uniquely clad with large triangular cut stone pieces meeting in a point in the centre and is rough and cool to feel. The counter mirror runs the entire width of the room studded with chandelier like glass light fixtures and mirror frames. The walls clad in stone to ceiling height. A large alabaster like hemispherical light is hung in the centre of the ceiling directly over a square rug on the floor. Spotlights, ambient lighting and specific activity lighting are provided for each function.
