Tom Murphy,a
former math and science major sleeps on a bench but
amazes players with his outstanding moves on the chess board!.His skill
has given him a oppurtunity to makes some bucks teaching the skills and
techniques he knew.He has even made Dupont Circle public square
America''s most prestigious chess park after NewYork''s fabled Washington Square.
Washington''s Chess Center director David Mehler said"He has the
title of expert in chess. This is the second highest American title;
above him are master. So it means he is quite good," .
Murphy grew up in North Carolina and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,famous chess centres.
He is an admirable expert in the lightning version of chess known as
blitz,the accelerated version of the ancient game where players are
allowed five
minutes for all their moves and the game ends within 10
minutes.
Murphy has won several chess tournaments and even finished 15th in the 2005 world blitz championship.
Murphy aims to get better at chess and rise to the title of master.
This poor guy now makes some 20 dollars an hour charging 2-5 dollars for a game!.
