Alliteration – a type of verse, repetition of some sounds at the beginning of 2 or more words.

Allegory- a narrative which serves as an extended metaphor is written in the form of fables, parables, poems, stories and almost any other style on genre. The main purpose is to tell a story that has characters, a setting, tapes of symbol, that have both literal and figurative meanings.
Epic- long narrative poem dealing with heroic figures written in an elevated style, tone is serious. The main purpose is to praise natural heroes, the most important element is repetitive style.
Epistolarynovel- novel consisting of letters written by a character or several characters. The form allows for the use of multiple points of view toward the story and the ability to dispense with an omniscient narrator.
Gothic novel- ancient prophecy, especially  mysterious, obscure, hard to understand, mystery and suspense, high emotion, sentimentalism, supernatural events(ghosts, giants, skeleton), omens, portents, dream visions-fighting, frightened screaming women-women threatened by powerful, impetuous male,-setting in a castle with secret passages, metonymy of gloom and horror( wind, rain, doors grating on rusty hinges, footsteps approaching, characters trapped or imprisoned.
Interior monologue- a narrative technique in which character’s thoughts are revealed in a way that appears to be uncontrolled by the author. Typically aims to reveal the inner self of a character, it portrays emotional experience as they occur and both conscious and unconscious level.
Metafiction-(surfiction, irrelity, self begetting novel, introverted fiction, irrealism, neo baroque fiction)kind of fiction that self- consciously addresses the devices of fiction, doesn’t let forget the reader that he is in the world of fiction novel that imitates novel, than real world -fictional writing, which self-consciously and systematically draws attention to it’s status as an artifact in order to ask questions to ask questions about relationship between the reality and fiction;
Morality plays- medieval drama featuring arguments between Good and devil, different values death and youth.
Mister (miracle) play- medieval drama presenting religious subjects based on the Bible.
Novel- new genre- journals diaries, ship locks, fiction- story more credible, epistolary novel characters exchange letters. S. Richardson Pamela, The virtue rewarded.
Image- a word, phrase or figure of speech that addresses the senses, suggesting, mental pictures of sight, sounds, smells, tastes, feelings or action. It offers sensory impression to the reader and also convey emotion and moods through their verbal pictures.
Imagery- the presentation of an object or idea by referring to sth else with which it becomes associated in the writer’s imagination.
Imagism- a literary movement advocating  simile.
Imaginarism- school of the poets, image picture which reader creates in his mind while reading it.
Intertextuality- term used by Julia Kristeva to describe the preexisting body of discourse that makes an individual text intelligible. Every text is a response to and an interpretation of other texts, and it can be read only in the relation to them.
Novel of manners- novel focusing on and describing in detail the social customs and habits of a particular social group, usually this conventions function as shaping or even stifling controls over the behavior of the characters.
Oedipus complex- psychological complex that is predicated on a boy’s unconscious rivalry with father for his mother’s love and his desire to eliminate his father in order to take his father place with his mother.(female equivalent is Electra complex).
Parody- a satiric imitation of a work or of an author with the idea of ridiculing the author, his ideas, or work. The parodist exploits the peculiarities of an authors expression- his propensity to use to many parentheses, certain favorite words or whatever.
Postcolonial criticism- an approach to literature that focuses on the study of cultural behavior and expression in relationship to the colonized world. It refers to the analyses of literally works written by writers from countries and cultures that at one time have been controlled by colonizing powers- such as Indian writers during or after British colonial rule.
