The BBC Radio is switched on today ... not off .. as I am doing my Drama Practical and it started off with a nice relaxing
Terry Wogan Show but was interrupted by the news that the
Writer .. Wendy Cope has ruled herself out as the First Woman Poet
Laureate of the UK as she feels the Post ought to be abolished ............ the reason for the discussion is that Andrew Motion the Current Poet Lauareate is stepping down and I believe, he has been in the Post for 10 years. and has been a great guy! I know that in 1999 when I first started writing professionally ... is keyed in as the day and time Andrew Motion took over the job of Poet Laureate.
Its a shame Wendy Cope doesnt feel up to it .. taking on the post of Poet Laureate as I am sure she would be an excellent Poet Laureate and a Leader for Women as well as Men but then I know this writer and she is well known for her strong opinions ... particularly on copyright. Think again Wendy Cope afterall you might contribute to History rather than block it out for we women totally! Nice work ..
I am a full member of the Poetry Society London and had an excellent Book Signing in September 2007 with Ely Ahamed and SM Thompson - Rock Me - www.waterstones.co.uk and a letter from Her Majesty The Queen/Elizabeth II ... thanks BBC Radio 2 for the update from the Writers .. famously famous I guess, like me, but are they Millionaire Poets ..........
