I often wonder what great writers get up to and today was no exception so I took my pen and notebook and walked the author's walk all the way to Southampton University, produced my Library Card and picked up the G2 section of the Guardian .. I thumbed through it a little and found to my surprise and delight that Seamus Heaney Poet has won the David Cohen Literary Prize of £40,000.
in the UK! Congratulations! to Seamus Heaney.
Seamus Heaney Poet had his prize presented by "The Chair" ... Andrew Motion the UK's Poet Laureate and .. he commented that usually when this prize has been won .. (the writer has got the prize) "under his belt" .. the writer goes on to win the Nobel Prize for Literature!
However, in the case of Seamus Heaney ...... the Nobel Prize for Literature got there first.
Seamus Heaney was present at the British Library in London and this Prize the David Cohen Prize for Literature of £40,000 was presented by the Arts Council - England.
Great poets write great work and win all the prizes and also win the prize money .. nice work!
