Another day another blog and the headline runs in the Poetry Society in London, "Seamus Heaney's Collection" Wins! so its Congratulations! to Seamus Heaney and all the others who were less fortunate or did not win first or were runners up or perhaps were given consolation prizes or have won the whole thing for the first time ever .. but the BBC Radio 3 offers us National Poetry Day which is today so I duitfully emailed off my contribution to my publishers, and will keep you posted on the outcome.
In terms of Poetry I cannot see a place for the average Jo as its always the "heavies" who win or the people who are chosen once and forever but then that's just a birdseye view of it all and possibly the real scene is completely different as I am looking in from the outside as an outsider and besides I never considered myself a poet anyway and it was my boss in Turkey who put the notion into my head. He likes my poetry but then I wrote about Turkey and it pleased him enormously. And I often complain that for anyone I meet on the street, poetry is not a paying market and another and another hacker writes back for work and then I have to remind him that he is not a paying market and besides the rules are different in this country from say, the US or Australia!
