One upon a time, in a far away kingdom lives a beautiful maiden name Magayon. Well known for her beauty and grace, princes from different regions of the island wooed her. The suitors every morning would visit Datu Makusog, Magayon's father, and will offer him anyhting in exchange of the hand of the Datu's daughter. Datu Makusog finds it hard to choose among the suitors for they are all elgibles; beside, he felt that it is not he who should decide for Magayon but she herself. Another dilema was Pagtuga-, a prince in the neighborhood region and a childhood friend of Magayon. It is not secret to Datu Makusog that Pagtuga loves his daughter and court her for sometimes already. One night, the Datu persuade Magayon to accept the proposal of the young prince Pagtuga to marry her. Magayon with full respect to her father, can't do nothing but cry. She does not know how to say no to her revered father; rather she asked her some more times to think of the matter.
A confused lady, she asked her maids to walk with her in the Kagubatan and cool themselves in the dazzling water of Yawa river. for a moment, Magayon forgot her perplexities that she slipped in the dipper part of the river. The maids screamed and panicked seeng their lady drowning. Not far away, a young prince from Katagalogan heard the scream and traced where it was coming from. When he saw that Magayon struggling in the water, he without hesitation plunged into the river to save the damsel in distress. This was the start of their friendship that blossomed into a tragic love affair.
Hearing Magayon's marriage to a stranger, Pagtuga raged in jealousy so he abducted the old Datu to stop the marriage and forced the maiden to marry him. During their marraige ceremony, Panganoron learned about what happern and together with his kin and men seized the kingdom of Pagtuga and pursued the bloody war. Pagtuga, Magayon, and Panganoron were all died in the battle. After how many years, the grave of Magayon rose into a hill now the people of Albay called Mt. Mayon. Whenver a cloud comes to the tip of the cone of the mountain, the people will say that Panganoron kisses Magayon. While an earthquakes signals the raged of Pagtuga.
