Meditation is the final gateway to Reality. All spiritual practices take you up to this gateway. The different courses purify your mind of your worldly thoughts and desires. They prepare you, qualify you for concentration and meditation. Without such preperation the practice of meditation is a mockery. It is like trying to run before you can crawl. You cannot really meditate unless you have first cleansed your inner personality. This is the law. People all over the world are ignorant of this law. The ignoramuses are lured to meditation because of its seemingly benificial effects. Also because it is simple, easy to practise. No initial preperation is insisted. The effect claimed by equally ignorant preachers are temporary and transient. But their benefits have been so much advertised and publicised that their is worldwide craze, a mania for meditation. Few realise that meditation is highly technical. It is a specialised art, skill. The mind requires initial processing and preperation. Only a prepared mind can be trained to concentrate single-pointedly. The art of keeping the mind aloft in sharp focus upon a single thought to the exclusion of all other thoughts is meditation. The mind is given a chosen word-symbol to concentrate upon. The word-symbol is called mantra. Your mind maintains the silent chant of the mantra under the supervision of the intellect. The intellect watches the mind chant steadily without allowing it to slip in to any other thought. The steady, balanced, single-pointed, conscious mental absorption in a chosen mantra is meditation. Meditation practised thus leads you to the ultimate experience of Reality.
