What a lot of fuss about modern writers as they never step off one platform but they stand victorious on another!
According to the Iran Book News Agency a Turkish Moslem Woman writer Elif Safak won a prestigious French
prize and the headline blogged in the Turkish digest is eye catching as follows:
TURKISH WRITER BAGS FRENCH AWARD
she writes in English and Turkish and has written books titled: The Bastard of Istanbul and
4O Rules of Love: and how about that for starters as the titles evoke both abuse and sex I
guess; for those of us growing up at Convent school in the 5Os the Ban would have been
imposed with the rod or iron so even today as a writer and teacher who is retired I shudder
to think what my Headmistress a Nun would say were I to repeat the abusive language in
order to win prestigious prizes: I am sure she must be turning in her grave.
I got a blog from this Turkish Writer and it was all about her writing and how she started and how all
of this led up to her finale so to speak in as much as the award for her writing have been pouring in
and to top it all this must be the icing on the cake for Elif Safak to win this French Book Award: so
I guess she has pleased the French though as a nation they are intolerant of English writers so
I suppose its the writer and her Turkish background that swung it or so it seems and according to
news blogged in the Turkish Digest: Writing Pays Awards!;
My experience in Istanbul Turkey obviously must and will pay dividends though as my writing partner
said recently on the phone its slow in coming and it looked like we were going for a 2O year run
as we have already chalked up a ten year commission and we are still waiting for the awards and
the money from Europe and the USA: Hurry Up!
