By far, the single most important thing we will do with our lives is to earn
salvation and spend eternity in Heaven with God. The rewards given to us in Heaven are beyond comprehension, and certainly better than the alternative. But what is the pathway to Heaven? Some
believe that all we need to do is perform enough
good deeds to outweigh our sins, as if God has some kind of cosmic measuring scale. Others say that we simply need to try to be as good as we can; God will understand and sort it out at the end. The Bible does not support those arguments. Actually, the Bible directly contradicts those assertions. Romans 3:32 – “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Yes, we are ALL sinners, but what are the consequences of sin? Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death.” If we all fall short of God’s
requirements, what are we to do? How can we ensure entry into Heaven? God has an alternate plan. God is providing us with an undeserved pathway to eternal Paradise. The pathway is through His
Son, Jesus Christ. John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.” God sent his Son to pay for our transgressions with His precious blood on the cross at Calvary. Salvation is not earned, but rather is a
gift from God: Ephesians 2:8-9 – “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by
works, so that no one can boast.” No, we cannot earn our way to Heaven with good works or a good life. We can never come close to meeting the requirements. No one ever has or ever will meet those exacting standards. Jesus was crucified and shed his blood on our behalf. In John 14:6 Jesus Christ himself tells us - "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” We need to accept God’s gift for salvation, but how do we do that? John 3:36 - Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him. Specifically, in Romans 10:9-10 -
God’s requirements are actually very simple. Accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that he died on the Cross and rose from the dead. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord and Savior. Do that and you will begin a great journey and receive the greatest gift ever given. Mark Askeda
