Luke

Book Summary by: davolog

Original Author: Luke
Luke the Physician was a friend of Apostle Paul and he is regarded as
the author of the third Gospel. The advent of
the savior was preceded
by events that are described in clear details. Elizabeth was barren but
she later conceived and gave birth to John. An angel of the Lord
appeared to Virgin Mary to foretell the conception of Jesus. Mary’s
visit to Elizabeth, Mary’s song of thanksgiving, Jesus’ purification
and infancy are recorded in details. At an early age Jesus taught in
the temple during the feast of the Passover. John the Baptist preached
repentance and baptized many people including Jesus. He was however
imprisoned for reproving Herod the tetrarch for his evil deeds. The
lineage of Jesus was traced to God who created Adam. After fasting,
Jesus was tempted thrice by the devil. The ministry of Jesus started in
Galilee with teachings and miraculous works and twelve disciples were
eventually chosen. Jesus taught with parables and performed several
miracles. He appointed seventy disciples, gave them the power of
healing and deliverance and sent them out to propagate the Gospel.
Christ condemned the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. He gave more parables
and healed many more people on his way to Jerusalem. His royal and
grand entry into Jerusalem was followed by the cleansing of the temple.
Hereafter, he taught in the temple daily with more parables, quotations
from the scriptures and illustrations. Christ foretold the destruction
of the temple. Jesus had the last supper with his twelve disciples and
was in agony in the garden of Gethsemane. He was betrayed with a kiss
and arrested amidst a resistance. Jesus had a Jewish trial and a Roman
trial which were conducted by the high priest and Pilate respectively.
False accusations established Jesus’ guilt. Christ was crucified and he
rose from the dead. Jesus gappeared to his disciples and left them
farewell instructions. Jesus Christ ascended into glory and was carried
up into heaven.
