John the apostle, ‘the disciple whom Jesus loved’ wrote this Gospel as
an eyewitness account. It begins with an exposition
into The Word and
its connection with creation, history and incarnation. John the Baptist
bore witness of Christ and heralded his coming. The calling of the
first
Disciples and the Lord’s miracle at the marriage in Cana of
Galilee signaled the beginning of the Lord’s ministry. In his discourse
with the Pharisee named Nicodemus, Jesus emphasized the importance and
necessity of regeneration. Jesus’ conversation with the Samaritan woman
by the well provided another opportunity to preach the Gospel. Jesus
healed all forms of diseases and
preached the Gospel in Galilee but the
Jews sought to kill him because he did not seem to keep the laws of
Moses. In a miraculous circumstance, Jesus fed at least five thousand
souls. The multitude sought him for more bread but Jesus declared ‘I am
the Bread of Life’. During the feast of the tabernacles, Jesus taught
in the temple but his opposition increased. Jesus further preached that
all that thirst should come to him for the living waters saying He is
the light of the world. He preached to the Jews and Pharisees answering
all questions in infinite wisdom. Jesus performed several works of
healing and was almost stoned because of his startling revelations that
unsettled the Jews. Lazarus got sick and eventually died that the name
of God might be glorified thereby. Jesus raised him from the dead after
four days. The chief priests took counsel to terminate Jesus ministry.
Jesus rode into Jerusalem and gave more teachings. He washed the feet
of the disciples demonstrating humility and pointed out the traitor. He
gave his disciples words of encouragement, comfort and edification. The
Holy Spirit was promised and Jesus prayed for his apostles. Judas, a
disciple of Jesus, led a band of officers who arrested Jesus. Christ
was brought before the High Priest and thereafter Pilate. Jesus Christ
was scourged and crucified. Mary Magdalene was the first to see Jesus
after his resurrection. She told the disciples she had seen the Lord.
Jesus Christ later appeared to his disciples.
