People often wonder what the "true" religion is. There are so many to choose from, so where should we start? I had wondered the same thing at a younger time in my life. I had heard about Jesus from my mother, but I didn''t really know Him.
I am blessed enough to have a family who is supportive and encourages me to go after my dreams. It was my sisters who brought me to Christianity. I came to know the Lord one sunny day while standing out on my patio. My oldest sister had written me a letter explaining to me how to be saved. As I stood on the patio, I looked up and asked Jesus to come into my life. I asked for the forgiveness of my sins, and at that moment I was saved.
My BIble study began that day. I started with the New Testament, and I learned all I could from it. I studied Jesus'' teachings and concluded that Christianity is the way to God. I remember reading somewhere that Christianity is the only reliigion where God comes to Earth to save His people. This is true. With every other religion I have learned about, none of them has a god who comes down to our level in order to save us from our own sinful nature. Followers of other religions have to try to appease their gods or goddesses by doing good works or offering sacrifices in order to feel like they are going to go to Heaven.
Christianity offers us eternal life with Jesus Christ, and the beautiful and perfect part about it is that Jesus died for us so we can live a free life away from sin. God offered His Son to humanity in order to save us from ourselves. Imagine an eternity with God, and go to HIm through Jesus. In John 14:6 Jesus states, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." The Bible was written by the disciples of Jesus. They are eyewitness accounts, which speak the truth about the Lord.
Jesus showed the people of His day many miracles so they would have faith in Him. From feeding 5,000 people with only five loaves of bread and two fish (Luke 9:16-17) to the healing of the sick and blind, not to mention being raised from the dead, Jesus performed many miracles. He knew that many would need to see in order to believe. It says in John 20:29-31, "Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. Jesus did many miraculous signs in the prescence of His disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name."
There are some out there in the world who think if they ignore the fact that one day they are going to die, then somehow they won''t be affected by it. The fact is that death happens to all of us. It doesn''t matter how rich you are, (actually it says in Luke 18:24-25, "Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for the rich to enter into the kingdom of God! Indeed it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God") and it doesn''t matter what you do of your own accord. Only the Son can release us from our bondage of sin. By looking to Him, we admit that we need a Savior, and being humble before God is the first place to start.
Good works won''t do it either. If a man commits even one sin, he is guilty in the eyes of God. No one is without sin, except Jesus. John 12:46 says "I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness." Also, in John 15:1-5 the message is clear, "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit, he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
I can''t explain in words how coming to the Lord has changed my life. If a person truly wants to know the peace I feel and know, without a doubt, that they are going to Heaven, then I would advise them to say a prayer and accept Jesus into their life. He will not disappoint you. Remember John the Baptist''s words in Matthew 3:2, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."
