Purpose
Have you ever worked in a collections department at an area business? Even worse, have
you received that dreaded phone call from a collection agency reminding you of a debt that you are already aware of, but cannot afford to pay. Usually the phone call sounds like this: “This is an attempt to collect a debt, and any information obtained will be used solely for that purpose…”. The purpose for the attempt to collect and for the phone conversation is to give you an opportunity to get back into good standing with the company to whom the debt is owed. You basically have two choices. The first choice being that you refuse to pay the debt owed, make excuses for it, or disregard it all together! Or there is a wiser choice, you can admit that you owe that debt, and make an arrangement to pay. Most of us cannot afford to pay off a large amount all at one time. Most middle class citizens who are on a budget will choose to pay small payments until it is paid off. Sometimes if we are attempting to pay a large debt off in small payments it seems to take the rest of our lives. In a spiritual since it seems to go about that way! Most of us are aware that we are moving, breathing, living creatures who have a creator to acknowledge and to thank for our existence! I’m sure that you’ve heard the saying: “Nothing in life is free!”. Well it isn’t, and neither was our life! Someone had to pay the price for our eternal salvation. I’m not sure about you, but if someone offered to pay off all of my debts, and asked nothing of me in return, I would gladly accept their offer! But, I would always be aware of what they had done for me. I would use opportunities to express my appreciation and thanks for what they had done. If we have chosen to accept this offer from Jesus Christ, how have we expressed our appreciation and thanks to him? Since our debt has been paid, but it was bought with a price, it was not free, nothing is, it cost God his only son Jesus Christ. He has not given us this gift of life because we asked him for it, he has given it to us to fulfill his purpose. When we truly grasp this concept do we begin to understand the meaning of our lives. Living for God’s glory is the greatest achievement we can accomplish with our lives! ( Quotes from: “The Purpose Driven Life“). The only way to live a fulfilled life is to surrender daily to God’s will for us. Nothing is more powerful than a surrendered life in the hands of God. The problem with surrendering is that it is very difficult to do when things don’t always make sense, or go the way we had planned. But surrendering our lives to Christ on a daily basis, will bring us freedom! Surrendering to Christ will not strip us of our personalities, it will enhance them! The more we make a choice to surrender, the more God will use us, and the more that God uses us, the more we begin to understand his purpose for our lives. Sometimes when we surrender it can literally be a painful thing to do. But remember that we are surrendering to him because we love him, because he first loved us! When we truly begin to grasp the complete meaning of love, we will have to experience some pain along the way. Jesus Christ experienced pain on the cross, because of his love for us. God loved his son Jesus Christ because he created him, but he allowed him to experience an excruciating amount of pain. Since God has allowed his only son to experience pain, then why do we sometimes consider ourselves exempt? When we fully begin to comprehend that God truly does love us, even when he allows painful experiences to happen in our lives, do we discover our purpose for life. When we experience the feeling of financial freedom, knowing our debts are paid, we prefer to keep it that way. We must make a choice daily how we spend our money and how we spend our lives to be able to continue to live in this freedom. When we are surrendered to Christ and have received and accepted his payment for our debts only then do webegin to experience freedom. We must make a choice daily how we use the gift of freedom that we have received. Only when we are free do we find our purpose.
