Christmas is full of good wishes from all over the world and I note the intense
pressure on primary school children to perform in the Christmas Story Drama.
Performing Arts start early in education not least in my own experience and I was one of the 3 Kings from the Orient in 1955 together with my fellow "Kings" we did a great job with performance and I wore the
golden crown befitting such a role in performing arts.
As the news broke about the British Primary School Teacher in Khartoum Sudan and her offence to Islam in relation to the naming of a Teddy Bear by one of her pupils/students as
Muhammed .... the teacher is now serving a fifteen day prison sentence .. which is a hard price to pay for some an inadvertent lesson in Sudan. Performing Arts perhaps bring out both the best and the worst in children and maybe its hard to get very young children to stick to the script ... after all they will cry laugh or lose interest if we dont humour them into
doing it .. joining in fully in performing arts. My students are not always Primary age but I have taught that particular band and we always have to ensure that Daddy or Mummy are around to straighten out the mess that their toddler makes in the
syllabus of Performing Arts. In Istanbul my student was 3 and his parents and I worked in total harmony to get him to perform without shyness which he did and of course I as his teacher was very proud of him and so was Mum and Dad. ... when he did very well! Lots of praise for him too for all his good work in Performing Arts. Its good to involve the parents as they have the same background as the child and therefore in a group we can all keep to the right side of the law and not go out of our way to cause offence ... great stuff in Istanbul .......... in performing arts......... keep on blogging and reading ...
