Once upon a time in South East Asia, there lived a wise anglicised Chinese humanist named Rodney Lee. As he was anglicised

Son of God as he had said in biblical Scriptures.
As Rodney Lee was challenged by his sinicised neighbours, for his helplessness, as theomachy was wreaking havoc in his life and that of his beloved ones, he learned how to evolve as a non-partisan exponent of King Solomon's Art of War:- the methodical spiritual warfare practice of burning both ends of the candle at the same time, pitting
militaristic Hinduism against militaristic Daoism.
The manifested outcome was the 1997 Asian financial crises and near global economic recession. As he was the victimized person, he soon gained pre-eminent notoriety in his country of citizenship. Aside from being a victim, he was "blessed" by the uninvited "spirits" to catch the eye of the daughter of a prominent ex-premier of his country.

The much-loved fairy-tale creatures that are so prevalent in Shrek are a direct connotation of the Asian gods and spirits.
