Fighting for her right in her Satin Tights !!
After having successively seen the disaster of the women superheroes in a movie, we may have to encounter another catastrophe in the human world. Even if it is not a sequel of another movie it is still a remake of a fantastic TV series. Who will be able to fit in the shorts of Linda Carter? What will make this movie better than the other? What is wrong with Diana Prince? Too many questions and not enough answers...
More than 10 years ago, and thanks to Marvel Comics, our superheroes have been personified see Batman or other Spiderman. Along the years only men have been on screen, and the appearances of Cat Woman (Batman Returns 1992) or Batgirl (Batman and Robin 1997) were brief and nearly unrecognizable. So in order to respect the equity, the producers decided to give to these women a lead role in an entire movie. Starting with Catwoman (2004), which was probably the worst movie with Hale Berry, the production companies thought that a spin-off of the flop Daredevil (2003), re-introducing the heiress, hit-woman Elektra (2005), will save the honor of the Female Superheroes… Wrong! But, with the time we thought they learnt their lessons, however with the lack of creativity, they decided to take one more time the gold old fashioned series-superheroes kind of (remember Charlie’s Angel, Mission Impossible and the Avengers…), by using the 1976 hit series, Wonder-woman.
In January 2001, Silver Pictures, offered to the screenwriter Todd Alcott the writing a movie about the Amazon princess, also known as, Diana Prince/WonderWoman. Many different actresses went through the unfinished script and shown interest regarding the shoot, from Mariah Carey to Sandra Bullock (Speed) or even Charisma Carpenter (Angel, Buffy) all of them wanted to fit into the tiny spangle banner shorts. The screenplay been successively held by Alcott, Cohen and Kalogridis but none during 4 years have been able to released a finished draft. In March 2005, Warner Bros and Silver Pictures announced the take over by Joss Whedon (Buffy) which would write and direct the film. But every dream has an end and the director of Serenity decided to give up the project due to script differences with the studio.
Even if there are a lot of actresses who want to take over the role held by Linda Carter, in the original series, nobody has been appointed by the production. At the moment, the movie titled, and this is probably what it has left, Wonder Woman, is still on and is scheduled to release in 2009. The last news from the Studios is the release of The Justice League (2009) where Wonder Woman will be a part of the cast, so the question is now: Will Diana Prince be ever on screen, or is there an Amazon curse?
