Shirley MacLaine came to the door n her slippers (she should have my lawyers and in which case learn to dress up indoors as well as outdoors). So dressed in a tracksuit and clutching a fistful of hair - at 78 she looks an older version of herself! Referring to her 6Os roles where she played roles which are regarded here as scatty!
She live sin a pied a terre in Malibu and lives most of the time on her ranch - a bungalow which overlooks the ocean and is a secure development popular with celebrities. She talks about anonymity and says that its possible she orders a cab at the end of this interview and stands in the driveway eating a cracker and I suppose
whizzes off to a pre arranged destination ...the writer does not offer the answers.

MacLaine this autumn plays opposite Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey - and there is something of a comparison as MacLaine is right up there with the time Liz Taylor played Miss Marple - MacLaine will play Martha Levinson - and refers to her character as democratic unlike the English - she has known Dame Maggie for almost 4O years .... and its a delight to sit around the table as two senior citizens gossiping.
