I.THEME The taste of
the
film basically discuss the
friendship of the six
women in Louisiana in the late 1980’s. The strong
bond of their friendship is seen in the
main setting which is the small town
parlor. Here we can see the strength of each woman through the way they deal
with their situations and making decisions according to what they really like.
In this film, men are portrayed as nonsense and fools. Men are depicted as
worthless people who just think of themselves and don’t care of others that
much.<br></br>II. PLOT The storyline
of the film clearly
showed the bonding of the main characters as close friends.
It goes with the film’s main theme that is why it is easily understood. The six women in the film usually meet at
Truvy’s parlor and they talk about the people in the town.Their story as strong
women who have a firm hold of the friendship they have established was
developed because of the time frame. The development of the story was normal
because of the inclusion of the certain holidays. Through those holidays, it
showed that years have passed and a lot of things has happened. So this made
the story sincere and truthful in presenting the value of friendship.<br></br>III. SCRIPT The dialogs of the characters are
real in connection to the characters they play. The content of the lines they
utter in the movie has contributed to the development of the plot and according
to the theme. The
scriptwriter made the conversation of the main characters in the parlor more
dense because the setting is where they got closer to each other. The dialogs showed both mood of the story which is the heavy mood when there occurred a
problem or misunderstandings among them and the light mood when everybody is
having fun and celebrating. A
good storyboard also helped in a good cinematography. The pre-meditated shots to be
used are well-prepared in the script that is why the shots are clear and
appropriate.<br></br>IV.ACTING A good
ACTING can be seen through
the impact of the character to the audience. One example is Shirley MacLaine
who played the role of Ouiser Boudreaux, an ill-natured town eccentric. Whenever
she delivers her lines, it’s very striking because it is visible in her face
that what age is saying is what Ouiser feels. Also a
good acting for Dolly Parton in playing the role if Truvy Jones. Truvy is an
adorable, loving and supportive wife. It is shown through her calm and angelic
face reveals the acting ability to be consistent on the personality she holds.V. NARRATIVE The
narrative has a clear presentation of the events in the lives of the main characters. With the help of juxtaposition, each scene in the film was made
possible in connection to the main purpose of achieving consistency and
realism. The consideration of some important holidays in presenting scenes
reveals the scriptwriter’s talent to give gravity to the story.
