As the hindi
cinema is coming of age, we have a major problem looming large over the biggest film
industry in asia, THE INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY. Here I would like to mention the law of
diminishing returns from economics which I would like to emphasize upon. Now you would definitely laugh and say what economics have got to do with the INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY. But you would be surprised. The INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY has been silently progressing since independence, and in the last few years the technology has taken quite a big leap from lowest grade to reasonably
good standards. Hardcore film viewers would definitely acknowlege that in the past 20 years there has been a silent shift from
films with GOOD STORY to films with GOOD TECHNOLOGY. As in the recent years science has made quite a progress on this earth which can be noted all around us. Coming to the LAW OF DIMINISHING RETURNS, I would like to mention here that for the last few years we the viewers have to bear the repetitive scripts being used by various noted film makers. This can be varified with statistics about the fate of the somany failures at the box office and a GOOD
SCRIPTED FILM arriving every once in 2 years. Whereas this frequency about the GOOD SCRIPTED FILM used to be about one good film per month about 20 years from now, the same can be varified. I personally feel that since we have been getting the same kind of story and scripts for the last decade atleast, the returns on these films are diminishing and if something is not done in the near future, the producers are in for greater losses in the coming days.
Without prejudice towards one and all I would like to emphasize on good script writing for HINDI CINEMA as I am my self a script writer I would like to mention here that. It is not such that INDIAN CINEMA cannot have good scripted films but that the PLATFORM for good writers to approach and good producers to approach should be there in common and both should be easily accessible. Unless something is done in that respect We would have the same content churned out in different style and dumb audiances would fill the theatres.
