If it was Alexander for Greek, Ceaser for Romans, then it is surely Akbar the great for Indians. It was under him that the entire India was united under a single political rule, which was till then divided in to small fragments and vulnerable for the attacks of the barbarians of that era. The third of the mougal after Baber and Humayun, Akbar rose as a teenager and ascended the throne of probably one of the most difficult countries to rule also at a time when there were many equally able kings around and a great deal of turmoil both in his ranks and his neighbouring states. He not only was great statesman, who took wise decisions or just a great warrior. He was a great leader, a just ruler, an able commander, a tolerant ruler -- probably the only ruler who was respected by followers of all religions at large and this was probably the key to his successful rule. It might interest some of the readers to know that the undisputed greatest ruler of this great nation was illeterate!!
