Babar established the Mughal empire in India. Babar means Tiger. Zahiruddin is
the birth name of babar. He was born to a mongol mother and Turk father in the year 1483.He lost his father at the age of 12. He ascended throne amid lot of opposition from his relatives in the year1495 approximately. He conquered samarkand in the year 1497. He fell sick and wanted to take rest. His rest was declared as death and his brother Jahangir was brought to the throne. Babar failed in his attempts to retrieve his kingdom. He spent most of the time wandering and gathering strength. He succeeded in winning back phargana in the year 1499 and followed it up with victory of samarkand. Uzbeks drove him out of phargana and samarkand in the year 1502. It was then he decided to move towards east Kabul. He conquered Kabul in 1504 and ruled till 1526. It was in the year 1519 babar looked towards India. He did not face any stiff opposition from the local rulers. They all surrendered for their own interest and paid royalty. Babar sent his messenger to delhi ruler of that time Ibrahim Lodi. But unfortunately he was not allowed to travel beyond Lahore and returned to Kabul. On his way back to Kabul babar conquered Phirala and drove away the rulers. Though his visit was not successful, it taught him an introductory part of India. From this point of view his visit is considered as successful.
