Total Freedom, The Essential Krishnamurti

Article Summary by: Kvas

Original Author: J Kirshnamurti
Philosphy has, in general,
always been of the religious kind for the layman. Most of
us do not know any other
kind of philosophy. But the more in sensitization we see of the human soul translating into
acts of war and intolerance, the concerned among us are
forced to look into its cause and why our beliefs, faith
and religions have failed. We wonder if things can change
for the better. Krishnamurti, J emphasizes beautifully that
the change one seeks has to start within oneself first
rather than without for it to be effective and everlasting.
He emphasizes that philosophy can only be of the personal
kind. Any other form of structure, method or institution
which we have built and continue to build, help only in
conditioning our mind and taking us away from the timeless
truth which is ever present in all of us. Krishnamurti
forcefully argues that any truth got from the transient and
ephemeral environment that we live in is as illusory as its
source. For him the only truth is to be found hidden within
the deep recesses of our mind. The most noteworthy aspect
of Krisnamurti's teachings and his life is his refusal to
take in followers or be part of any cult, method or
structure. He essay on truth being a pathless way more than
clearly explains the reason for this rigid stand on his
part inducing the reader towards inevitable introspection.
Krishnamurti comes to the reader at a tangent sometimes.
Without knowledge of all his works and discussions the
reader might find some of his answers abstract and vague.
But once you know the true purport of his teachings, it
will be easier to relate to even the most seemingly absurd
of his statements. His essays and dialogues does remind one
of Jesus's sermons on the mount. No wonder his books are
being referred in more that 150 colleges and universities
worldwide. This book is the answer to readers who are
interested in absorbing Krishnamurti’s teaching right from
1929 till the time of his death in one go.
