Looking From Within

Article Review by: Praveen Kamat

Original Author: Sri Aurobindo and the Mother
Title : Looking from Within
Author : Sri Aurobindo and the Mother
It dosen't matter whether good or bad happens
to us or around us, but
what matters is our atitude towards such events.By LOOKING at external
events and circumstances FROM WITHIN the mind ahieves a state of
equanimity. The individuals who wishe to attain such mental equanimity
are classified by Sri Aurobindo into three primary categories. They are
a)Those who wish to attain greater self and life-mastery.
b)Those who while pusuing the goals of life, seek a higher spiritual quotient.
c)Those for whom spiritual growth is the primary purpose and pre-occupation of life.
Cultivation of certain atitudes is extremely important irrespective of
the approach followed by the individual in attaining spiritual
growth. The book deals with such atitudes. The book is beautifully
compiled into three sections by A S Dalal. The passages are concise and
full of aphorisms.
The book is a must read for persons suffering from depression, extreme
anxiety, inferiority complex and other negative states of mind not
condusive to good mental health. However the degree to which the reader
can reap the benefits of the pearls of wisdom in the book depends
solely on his/her sincerity and discipline to learn and practise what
he/she has read and an unfailing openness to self-criticism and
falsehood. The essence of the book is that all the
events taking place around us are happening for our own good even
though initially they seem very unfortunate and hopeless, and that one
must face these situations with a calm mind and a deep faith in the
Divine Grace.
This book is one of the galaxy of excellent titles on the works of Sri
Aurobindo and the Mother.More information on the works of Sri Aurobindo
