The Monk who sold his Ferrari

Book Review by: chauhan_vaibhav

Original Author: Robin Sharma
This is a story of self realization and self achieved wisdom which is narrated to a
junior associate by a renounced lawyer turned monk who accumulated a large pool of wisdom from the great saints of the Himalayas .           A man who was one of the most prominent barristers of his time found his job exceptionally intriguing that he sinked himself into his work to achieve fame and all the luxuries of the world. That was only after some time later when his excessive work load and craziness started having adverse effect on his health. He got a heart disease and he realized the would be effects of his unrealistic work pressure. That was the day he resolved to move to the Himalayas, well known for its very healing nature.    There he met the most sought after monks who chose solitude as the way of living. He spent considerable number of weeks with them and learned to view the life using the vision of those monks who were isolated from the outer world and were enjoying the inner peace of the soul which was far-fetched even from the imagination of the so called prosperous people of the outer world. The wise monk of nirvana let him know the treasure of wisdom that they had achieved after years of meditation but at the cost of spreading it to as many people as a mission.     After grasping the learnings from the saint of nirvana, the lawyer turned monk returns to the world once left for the search of true wisdom and inner peace of soul. He visits his once junior associate, who was appalled as the once pale and lean body was gleaming today and the soul was replenished by the sapience.     The book teaches the practical and naturalistic philosophy of 21st century and not the superannuated rituals. It emphasizes on the realistic techniques that can be exercised in today''s scenario. The monk likens the behavior and character as the garden and the mind as the gardener and emphasizes not to let immature and damaging thoughts even enter the mind as they would eventually affect the character and inner peace in long terms.        The monk illustrates the techniques of the betterment of concentration of mind that may result in exceptional outcomes and elaborates the extreme power of subconscious mind which may bring great success in life.      Precisely saying the book vivifies the old practices considering its usage and appropriateness in the present world.
