THE LITTLE ZEN COMPANION

Book Review by: CatherineGallagher

Original Author: Schiller, David
This little (literally) book is a delightful, sometimes confusing, always exciting and ultimately enlightening collection
of Zen (sometimes, formally) and Zen-without-being-Zen sayings, stories, thoughts, poems, histories, explanations (and lack of them) that keeps you guessing until you KNOW and then keeps you guessing if you know. Like a child handing you a flower and bringing you to enlightenment, this book will be a kick in the head to some, a gentle knowing to others, a quiet confirmation or a new way of seeing--and seeing that seeing is what-it-is-all-about. To understand is to be able to say or have said what each Master has said and why, at that moment, you understand. There are so many Masters here--Eastern and Western, young and old, child, man, woman, fish, bamboo plant, Moon, fish--so many more than speak their names on the page.
