Immortal Quotations

Article Review by: Praveen Kamat

Original Author: Dr.D P Sharma
The problem with a majority of books on quotations is that they are
listed Author-wise.If a reader wants quotes pertaining
to Love or
specific topics like immortality, war,etc then he has no choice but to
painstakingly go through the entire book and filter the quotes as per
his liking . At first glance, I thought this was just another book on
quotable quotes printed in a haphazard manner. But on opening the
contents page, I realised that I was wrong.
The book has a total of 3081 inspiring sayings sub-categorised into 138
topics like fear, poetry,War ,etc. One page is devoted to one
sub-category of quotes. The author of each quote is mentioned as well.
On going through this interesting and absorbing book, it becomes clear
that Dr.Sharma has painstakingly compiled the quotations from a wide
range of thinkers, philosophers, leaders and writers. Compiling
quotations is hard work. It's even harder when you have to
sub-categorise them into 138 sub-categories.This books comes from the
valuable stable of beautifully written and well-printed books by
Navneet. The book is a must have for speakers (politicians
infact),writers and ardent students of the English language. This
enriching book is extremely handy and a ready reference for the lover
of English language with a good Quotable
Quotient.
It is the great readers rather than the great writers who are entirely
to be envied. They pluck the fruits and are spared the trouble of
rearing them.( Quote No.12, Page 115)
