Write your abstract
here.It is a major mistake to think that the
philosophies of India belong to the Oriental India
and
that
the "new India" is simply the India of today or
wholly
different India moulded by contemporary, chiefly
western,
influences.The striking developments that are
taking
place
in contemporary India are not out of accord with
the
Indian
tradition -though they are out of accord with some
of
the
distortions and excesses of that tradition which
arose
primarily under the stress and pressure of
unfortunate events and almost unbearable circumstances that
colonialism
produced.
Indian philosophies STILL provide the
guiding
principle of the
life of the people and also
because in
them we find very significant ideas and concepts-to
which
the rest of the world may well turn for new
insights
and
perhaps deeper wisdom.
The distortions about the history of India
need
to
be corrected. Not because there is any prejudice of
some
sort or that we Indians are nostalgic about our
country but
simply because today we are at a loss about our
aims in
life.Life is not all about false pretentions and
projections. In this short life,we are to prove our
worth as
a
human being...and it is only here that we can
rely on
Indian philosophies to be our guide.
It is really unfortunate that not only
western
scholars, but our own scholars have denied India any
credit
concerning its contribution to the world
thought.All
the
divisive forces in our country are taking undue
advantage
of this, and are hell bent upon another partition of
the
country that will play havoc on the gullible next
generation.Truely, don't we, as human beings,
realise
that
in the end we are to get nothing in the name of
peace
of
mind which is in fact the greatest asset of life.
Let us,therefore, study the history of our
country
in a truer context and let the world know the true
essence
of life.It can only be possible if we read a lot
and
that
too without any misgivings.
It will be appropriate to quote Sri
Aurobindo
here, according to whom the time will come when the
Indian
mind will shake off its darkness that has fallen
upon
it,cease to think or hold opinions at second and
third
hand
and reassert its right to judge and enquire in
perfect freedom into the meaning of its own scriptures.
The recovery of the perfect truth aboutIndia
and
its rich philosophies is therefore not merely a
desideratum
for our modern intellectual curiosity, but a practical
necessity for the future of the human race.
