Mangalore is a
beautiful palm-fringed port on the West Coast, resembling Kerala with its
backwaters and palm trees. The climate is mild throughout the year and the
beaches nearby Parambur, Ullal and Surathkal -are a heaven for the lover of
the sun and the sea.
The green hills roll
down into valleys and end on the shores of the Arabian Sea
Sun and sand
a) Near Udipi and Malpe, a beautiful beach, and Marvanethe,
good for surf-riding, sixty two kilometers from Mangalore is Manipal. It is an important educational
centre.
b) Another beach resort is Karwar, where one can
also explore the beautiful Kali River valley.
The beaches of
Karnataka are noted for their beauty and serenity. One or two could easily be
developed, as the coast of Western India is the most beautiful in the country,
with palm fringed sands, rocky backdrops and beautiful waterways and streams
emptying into the sea.
This, then, is
Karnataka- a land where tradition and history combine with nature’s beauty and
bounty. It was once ruled by the demon Mahisha (from which word came the name
Mysore Mahisha-ur); Parasurama lived
on its coast; and several savants from Sankara and Madhva to the saints of the Bhakti period have sanctified it. Its
people are as gentle as the quiet hills and softly moving Rivers.
