Ramadan 2007 in Kuwait

Article Summary by: NicoleB

Original Author: NicoleB
My first Ramadan experience ever. It started last Thursday and lasts 30 days. No eating and drinking in public, from sunrise
to sunset, not for Muslims nor Non-Muslims. The penalty for doing so is either 30 days in jail or 100 KD (approx. $ 350). It must be quite hard to change your whole daily routine for only 30 days, eating at night, not drinking anything all day, not even water. The meaning of it is cleansing your body and mind, plus, the prayers made during this time are worth much more than your usual prayers. Like Bonus points you can collect. The truth is, that people over here eat more during those 30 days than during any other time of year. They spend a lot of money & waste a lot of food. It's close to impossible to get any work done during this month either. If it makes sense not to be able to drink anything is yet another question. People having chest pains and collapsing is a normal daily routine. We have a mere 45 degrees Celsius out there during the day. Minimum.Restaurants and Coffee Shops are closed during the day, but at least Supermarkets are open.

    Affectation

I've been thinking that about the Ramadan tradition a long time. You confirmed everything I have been thinking all along - that it's just a big setup and excuse for people to completely give in to gluttony at night and in the early morning...
