Language of Prosperous India

India is a place of many languages. People of different cultures, different history, different customs, different beliefs, and of different languages call themselves Indians. Many intellectual people are fighting for decades to make Hindi as the national language of India. But does it really make sense? How can these people expect that everybody in this nation can speak Hindi?

If we organize a poll to find the opinion of masses of India from different geographical backgrounds, I am very much sure that the vote count from South India, North East, and even the Intellectual hub of India-West Bengal would vote out the idea of Hindi as the national language of this nation.

National language is ought to be a language which can be easily understood and spoken fluently by all people of that country. It should be one which can empower people to freely and easily communicate with his fellow countrymen regardless of their geographical and cultural differences, but is it right with Hindi?? Definitely not! People in North East may have different regional languages and several dialects, but the language in which they easily communicate with one another is English. They break their geographical shackles and cultural differences because of a common language i.e. English. Would they be able to speak in Hindi? May be ask a Manipuri and ‘no’ would be the reply. The same is true with South Indians. Despite having different set of languages a person from Andhra can easily communicate with a Tamil in English.

The Gandhian national movement for independence was also motivated by same sort of instinct. The Hindu centric movement which Gandhi patronized is the main cause of partition of the country and now some brain heads want to cut down the country by promoting a language which is not even spoken by country's 60% population fluently!!

Today we need a secularist approach in finding one language for the country’s over 1.2 billon population so that they can easily communicate with each other and can easily come under a same roof by understanding each others problem and daily life. To make the country stand in the queue of the developed nation we first have to attain brotherhood among the people and that can only be achieved when they’ll be able to express themselves to each other. So it’s high time we break the language barrier and accept English as the best gift of the Brits to attain communion among our people so that they can collectively work for the betterment of this huge versatile nation.
