The Perfect British Accent almost immediately when someone calls me on the subject I recite my teaching career of 25 years as a drama lecturer and mention to them that my job was to teach "accent" ad I am always pleased with the notion that when we play the part life calls us to ... I get complimented when and if my drama students speak with the perfect British accent.
The World's a Stage ... we are merely players .......... each must play a part ... according to Shakespeare and how relevant that quotation is today in a world where at the door of a famous church the fat person prodes you to say one does not speak with the perfect British accent .. that one has an accent ... often its hard news ... as I am not /on call/ so to speak and am playing my Russian Part or my Turkish Part or more to the point my Czech Part and therefore I will be creating that /accent/not the perfect British accent .. so why am I playing this part at church on Sunday .... isnt the world inquisitive prying into the life of the writer on Sunday in a fashionable part of the city where I live! Well! to direct an answer to this question ... I have just come off the phone to a man who is speaking Turkish, Russian, English, French, and German and therefore I have a mixed bag of accents and languages and so has he!
He is an expert in accents and in many languages and as a result of my drama work I too have become expert in this world of foreign accents and oddly enough this Man .. can and does speak with the perfect British accent as I do .. when we are employed to do it I guess or have been paid the big cheque .. or are funded by the Arts Council in England . then we can both jump to attention .. nice work! To speak with the Perfect British accent is our way of life, I guess!
