Some persons change religion voluntarily and consciously from the one, in which they have been brought up in. The purpose of religion is salvation. There is no material gain. This topic has been discussed in an article in Times of India dt.Jul 01, 2011. Therefore with this end in view, if the individual feels the need, the religion can be changed. But causing or forcing some other persons to change the religion needs careful study, as to whether this change is due to religious discourse or preaching or due to enticement or due to push and pull influence exerted. Out of these 3 situations, the first one is an accepted practice. Different religions depute their people to other lands to preach their religion with honesty. But for the second and third causes, the reasons could be social and economic, better status in society, better chances of livelihood and education etc. Then it should be left to the individual to decide. Proper procedure and mechanism acceptable to the concerned sides and community should be followed. Changing religion by force or by unacceptable means is not in order. By taking a new religion for some temporary gain, there may be confusion in moments such as death. We should consider it from points of view of happiness in life, being comfortable at the time of death and having safe guarding beyond life.
