CHILD PROSTITUTION: A TRAGIC REALITY
Child prostitution is fast becoming a big problem in the world today, this is because those involved do not only engaged in the act of selling their body alone for money, but also engaged in drug and other social vices. Many of them feels dejected and rejected by the society because of the way they live their lives.
In the world today so many important personality have condemned child prostitution, in the words of one time Brazilian president, he said that child prostitution is a barbarous crime. The United Nation Education Scientific Cultural Organization declare that all forms of sexual exploitation are incomparable with human dignity, and therefore violate the fundamental human rights, regardless of the age, gender, race, ethnicity or class of the victims.
The root cause of child prostitution and the acceptance of this social vices in our society today is because the level of poverty, countries where poverty is very much tends to accept, tolerate, and even practice child prostitution because of he financial benefit and the attempt to solve the immediate quest for money and material prosperity, but they fail to see the other side of the act, the human degradation, sexually transmitted diseases, the alienation from the family and the entire society.
Human trafficking is a basic aid to child prostitution, study has shown that most of these children that engaged in this illicit act are illegal immigrant from Asia, Africa and South America who are smuggled in to Europe and North America. A research shows that human trafficking is the third largest crime after drug and weapon trafficking. In some countries in the South America there are as much as 500,000-child prostitution even when prostitution is illegal. Areas where child prostitution strive there is bound to be drug users, and execution of deadly crimes. Some of the reason why child prostitution strive is that the families of the children are so poor that they cannot even fend for themselves not to talk of the whole family, the easiest way out is to engaged in this act of selling their body for money in order to survive, also some of this children are from broken homes or from single parenthood who do not have enough time for the up bringing of the child as a result some of them are lured in to prostitution through peer influence. Also those who patronize these joints are afraid of contacting venereal diseases, the only way to avoid this is to look for young girls who are Virginias and stand the lest risk of contacting the diseases.
Though prostitution is a thing that is as old as man, even it was evident in the Bible is a crime against the body and should not be practiced at all not to talk of involving children who do not know the real danger of what they are doing and are not capable of taking any real decision. It is a shame that adult would sleep with adolescents, and teenagers who are young enough to be their children, it’s an act of indiscipline that must be stopped.
