Faith in Your City/Southampton Uk

Website Summary by: SM THOMPSON

Today I participated in the Peace Walk from Peace Fountain in a Southampton Park along the way to the Hindu Temple, the Sihk
Place of Worship, The Muslim Mosque, Synagogue, Quakers Meeting House and Roman Catholic Church in Southampton.
There was a lively group of people assembled at 12.45 and led by The Southampton Police all arrived safetly at these different faith centres and Places of Worship in Southampton.
I spoke to the Hindu Speaker and she was delighted with the response she received from the assembled gathering.   I entered the Mosque somewhat gingerly as I was not wearing a scarf and though I am not a Muslim I try and stick to the rules,  however, I hid behind a pillar so nobody paid much attention to me anyway .. but in these places of worship we all took off our shoes and put them in a place at the entrance to each of these places of worship.  We had a bite to eat and it was most welcome as the walk was hard going and the weather was fortunately dry with light rain.  The Faiths in the City of Southampton are ...Judaism: Islam:  Buddism Bahai: Hinduism:  and Christianity ... the group lending its name to these proceedings is known as ...  Southampton Council of Faiths and Southampton Interlink faith ... I stopped to chat to others on the Peace walk and the conversation varied from professional employment to the fees paid to the teaching and medical profession in this country.  Yet, there I was lending a hand ... as a volunteer today at these Centres of Worship in Southampton on this the month of June, 2008!  In terms of the speeches and comments I suppose the Muslim Leader and his reference to being "pro active" caught my imagination as I am a pro active writer but not a religious priest or religious leader ... great to see so many people coming together to do the Peace Walk for World Religion in this City ... thanks for that Southampton .. keep on blogging. and working .. great stuff!.
