What are the origins of the Universe? How was the Earth formed? Where did life on the Earth come from? Religion has evolved
as a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature and purpose of the Universe. Religion provides some - though, perhaps, not all - answers to these questions.
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Originally, the Earth was without form and void (empty), and darkness was upon the deep (waters). According to Genesis, God's first command was "
Let there be light".
The heavens and the earth were created, and many things in them. And, as they were created, they came to life. The entire work of
creation lasted six days in all. After God had completed his laours, he surveyed his entire work and was satisfied. On the seventh day, God rested. Therefore, the seventh day is both blessed and sanctified as a day of rest.
Man and Woman were created last. However, this does not mean that they are the least important of God's creations:
1.. They were created only after the rest of creation had been carried out.
2.. They were made in the image of God, and in His likeness.
3.. They were given dominion over all the creatures upon this earth.
4.. They were blessed by God.
