Serving in the Streets

Book Summary by: Brandy

Original Author: Sharon Adams
Many practicing Christians do not realize what a huge mission field is right here in their own backyard. Every large city
and even some small towns have homeless people who need to be ministered to by being fed and being provided with clothing. Most of them just simply need to know someone cares enough to listen to them once in awhile.
Lots of drug addicts, prostitutes, sick and disabled are confined to the streets for one reason or another. Many of them have never had any real family anchor and quite possibly those who do go to minister to them may be the only family they will ever know.
Serving amongst street people requires patience and alot of discernment. Servers must never knowingly give them the opportunity to buy drugs by giving them things they could sell as soon as you are gone. Every effort has to be made to bring the message of the gospel to them instead so they can be freed from their bondages and maybe even help those around them come to know a better life. It is so joyful to see even one come to salvation and see the light in their eyes. It is joyful to watch them follow the lead of those who minister and begin to minister to others themselves. It is beyond description to witness one of our brothers/sisters be able to leave the street life for better things. It brings the most joy to know that God found us worthy enough to use us in even a small way to help bring about someone else's salvation and freedom.
Street ministry is not for everyone because it deals with the harsh realities of life and loves those who others may not consider worthy of love. Jesus considered all of us worthy of His love, how can we not do the same for each other?
