Tired of hearing how everything’s going to change post
December 2012? Or as for that, how nobody’s going to be here to see what has
changed? From the ancient manuscripts and the wisdom talks to today’s
not-so-wise proclamations, everyone’s chipping their own thoughts about the conjectural
apocalypse. So when did it all start?
And basically, who started it? Well, I am not in a good position to tell you ‘who’
let the cat out of the bag, but there are some things which led to the belief,
some of which are illustrated below.
The much enunciated Mesoamerican Calendar system (closely
associated to the long lost Mayan civilization) has had some of its studies
pertaining to the subject. According to their calculations (referred to as the
13th b’ak’tun), the different ages were classified based on the
timeline (the zero of which lies roughly in 3114 BC, as per our time system).
So, their manuscripts say that the fourth age (or world) will end on December
21st 2012, giving rise to the fifth world (which is proclaimed to be
spiritually advanced). Well, the real mystification lies in the fact that the
manuscripts, being too ancient, are not clear enough to tell the whole story,
and hence are disputed over by many researchers. Also, many opposing references
to the same manuscripts pose another predicament.
Another study (this one being based on New Age suggestions)
based on the solar cycle dates December 21st as the beginning of the
new solar maximum (a part of the solar cycle) which will be illustrated by
powerful radiations booming from the sun all over the system, the first couple
of planets being the ones who will receive most of it. So will these radiations
burn us like buns in the oven? Well, scientists tell us how such radiations are
already hitting our planet for centuries, without us being shaken. The extreme
radiations have showed up causing something not more than a power failure (in
the struck countries) for a couple of hours (to days) or commotions in the
electromagnetic networks (like telecommunication lines). Scientists deny the
fact that the so-called doomsday will bring anything more than a pin in the
cushion. Other less admired theories suggest the sudden appearance (or
migration) of a black hole which will gobble up some of the planets, including
ours, in our solar system. Another interesting tale refers to our clash with a hypothetical
(cross dimensional) planet ‘Nibiru’ (or Planet X or Nemesis and lots more), who
was made popular after a certain Nancy Leider started having extra-terrestrial
visions which she made popular through her website.
It is surprising to note that it is not just the ancient or
the new age that wants to talk about it. Every religion (Buddhism, Islam,
Christianity, Hinduism, Jewish, etc.) have evidences in their foundational
manuscripts which have reference (of some kind) to December 2012, though no of
them have a firm answer. Some talk more about the spiritual transformation
while many more want to kill them all. Hot or cold, the debate has not only
caused a chatty turbulence but has also made millions through big time movies and
top seller novels. Says a famed director of the tinsel town, “It’s a piece o’
cake to make a masterpiece outta convictions you know have been creeping for
centuries…”. Well, believe or not, with the suspense ticking that fast, one won’t
be surprised if we hang ourselves even before we’re sure if we will be.
