THE GIFT OF NATURE
Once upon a time there lived a small
girl in a village. One day she stole into an orchard behind their house, through a hole in its wall. Slowly she paced to one of the huge mango trees and prayed, “Oh God, give me some mangoes, my mother is sick and papa cannot afford to buy mangoes for us. Please
help me”.
Her eyes were tearful and head - held high. All of a sudden there was a whistling wind and the ripe mangoes started falling around her. She was excited and scared too. As she was about to gather the fruits, she stopped to witness a chariot approaching her. The chariot stopped by her.
“How dare you steal mangoes?” the
driver asked. The girl started crying and said, “I have not stolen, sir. I prayed to God for it”. The driver said, “The fruits are nature’s gift. But it
goes to them who love nature and do their duties to become worth of getting those.” The girl replied, “Yes sir, I do my study well and help my mother and friends every possible way. Pray, tell me what more should I do?”
The driver said “Oh dear, you are good, brave but not obedient to your parents. You have
stolen into other’s garden and disobeyed not only your parents, but also broken the rules of society. Do go back home and get permission first. Remember, goodness in you can draw sympathy from nature but not its fruit, for fruits go to capable hands- as ascertained by society. Help your self and prepare so that nature’s blessing goes to you as reward.”
