If, like me, your favourite comedy is British, then you will find this site a joy to visit. British
comedies date back to
the 1930s, and since that time literally hundreds of comedy programs have been shown in the UK and all over the world. This
website is a must visit, both for the comedy enthusiast and the uninitiated. The site has an A-Z list for programs and people, and is quite exhaustive when it comes to listing the many English
comedies that have been made over the years, ranging from the celebrated to the obscure. Each day the site puts the spotlight on a particular comedy; if you visit this site on a daily basis you will find that a different comedy will appear every day - such is the output of a nation with an almost obsessive appreciation of humour. Being an Australian with British heritage, I share that appeciation and that obsession.
This website has other curiosities, such as 'Great Comedy Moments' and 'Britain's Best Sitcom', the latter being a list of the top one hundred comedies as voted by the British public since the beginning of 2004. It is interesting to note that according to this poll, 'Only Fools and Horses' is Britain's Best Sitcom. While this particular comedy may not be everyone's comedic cup of tea, obviously enough of the UK public felt that it deserved to be in first place. Perhaps such polls are inherently flawed - that is to say, if many more people had voted, then the results of the top hundred might have varied considerably. In addition, there is also the fact that such vastly different comedies appear in the list - for instance, 'The Good Life' and 'Absolutely Fabulous' hardly bear comparison. Whatever your taste in British comedy, I would certainly recommend a visit to this website.
