Harvard is one of the best-known colleges in the world because of the attention that graduates attract to themselves. Conan
O’Brien is a Harvard grad, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau the two great transcendentalist writers were Harvard grads. Our PRESIDENT went to Harvard business school, Obama went to Harvard Law school, Natalie Portman just graduated from Harvard…
Hilary Duff is coming to Harvard next year….HILARY DUFF… “let the rain fall down, I’m coming clean” Hilary Duff
AND guess who goes to Harvard????
Albert Hwang- some kid from Naperville...(with large biceps)
So is it Harvard or Harvard
students that really give the school its punch? I would have to go with Harvard students. Harvard has the stereotype of being the hardest school to get into, the
intellectual mecca, the place where the smartest kids go.
I’m at Harvard, so apparently that’s not the case. I mean think about it, just look at the list above, are all those people intellectual studs?
We’ve got Conan O’Brien, Hilary Duff, our president, and Albert “Cash Money” Hwang
Not exactly the, uh, Intellectual terror squad to say the least.
So if Harvard kids aren’t necessarily smarter than kids in the rest of the nation, why does it continue to have that reputation? It was a long time ago when Harvard was one of the only colleges in the states, now there are tons of colleges and if you were to match a Harvard student with any other student in any major research institution I don’t think you’ll find a significant difference in IQ.
But see, I’m convinced that there’s more to it then just brains. It’s about what I like to call “Cultural capital”. When drop the Harvard name (the H-bomb) You have to drop it like it’s HOT. Because the Harvard name, more than your education at Harvard, more than your innate intelligence is what’s going to open doors for you.
That’s why you never just saying “uh…Harvard” because NO ONE in this world will ever say “uh…Harvard” or “oh, it’s just another Harvard kid…some many of those foos”.
It’s the Harvard name that resonates with people…it’s associated with prestige, power, fame, and intelligence.
Sure we have some of the most distinguished professors in the world, sure we have famous( and rich) alumni, sure we recruit the most high performing HS students(some of the time).
But more than anything it’s the Harvard name. Is it worth paying over 40000 a year? I would say so.
SO Harvard kids, I’m sorry our secret is out. We’re not better than you, we’re not more powerful, wittier, better looking, smarter, or whatever than you. We’re just your average college students except with a weapon.
I go to
哈 佛 大 學!
KA- BOOM!
