Orkut is a friend community site, i.e. it is a site where you can meet
new people chat with them and add them as friends. You can also stay in touch
with your long lost friends and the current one’s. Many people also go beyond
friendship while chatting on this site. Once you open http://orkut.com you
have to create your Google account so as to register for orkut. Registration is
fast and simple. Once you have registered, view anybody’s profile and send him
a friend request and thus you have taken the first step in orkut. There are
also communities created by different users which you can join as per your
liking and make friendship with the existing members of that community and also
there is no limit for the number of community you can join and also you can
unjoin any community if you want to, further you can make your own community, the
choice is all yours. Chat with friends, post scraps, share your picture, create
your album and also share videos with your online friends, i.e. the people who
are your friends on orkut. You can also tell people about you by filling up
your complete profile and uploading your picture. Orkut is now a three year old
site and is gaining popularity because of its easy to use interface if you
compare it to other friend community sites such as Hi5 and My Space. The search
for users in those sites is a bit complicated and drawback of orkut that a
person can’t upload a video has been lately removed.
There are many drawbacks of this
site, firstly there’s no privacy about your scraps that you post. Sending
messages is a long procedure and anybody can view your scraps. There’s no chat
room in orkut so if we want a private chat then chatting with yahoo messenger
our only alternative. If one gets addicted to this site there’s no coming out
of it, there are people who check there account every half an hour to see if
there is any new scrap or not, so please visit this site seldom as possible.
There are also a lot of explicit content and images on orkut which are not
allowed on the net. I think you better understand them so I need not mention
it.
There have been a lot of protests about banning this site because of
its material and the addiction of a child for it. Often there are protests
going on in my country, i.e. India for the so called noble cause but still then
it is the most visited site of India and Brazil. So I think you must have got a
