Improved Search Engine Ranking   by Michael Reeves
No serious customer is
going to read through ten or more pages of search engine results to
find your web page. If you hope to grow your online business, you must
do everything possible to improve your search engine ranking. You can
increase the targeted customer traffic to your site by using these five
simple steps. You won''t have to spend money, but you must spend time on
these essential strategies. First, take a
hard look at your web site''s home page title bar. This is the colored
bar at the page top. Title bars should be made up of six or less words
that include your company name and a quick, exact idea about the
purpose of your web site. It''s worth every minute you spend to get the
most specific, eye-catching and appropriate keywords into title bar
text. Once you''re satisfied that a customer will be drawn to your web
site by this text, it''s time to check the title bars on every single
page of your site. Click each link, look at the title bar text. Ask
yourself, "Does this title bar contain the most crucial keywords and
phrases from this page?" If not, get to work! Secondly,
look closely at your web site content. Is it high quality, clear and
understandable? Whiz-bang graphics are great! But search engines look
for content which is original, clear and rich in keywords. To improve
your search engine ranking you must have between 100 and 250 well-
chosen, accurate words, on each of your web site pages. It must be
current. It must be something your targeted customer will enjoy
reading. Thirdly, check and see whether
your text is in HTML format. Just try to highlight a few words with
your cursor. If this doesn''t work, your text is probably in graphics
format, and search engines can''t read that! Ask your webmaster to
change the text into HTML format. Fast! Fourthly,
although they''re of limited effectiveness, you should make sure that
your text has "meta tags." You can ask your webmaster to ensure that
these powerful little pieces of computer code are present. To check for
yourself, just do the following:- go to your browser and click "view"
on the menu bar; next, select "source"; look at the top part of the
window which appears; look for the following words,-----meta name
="keywords" content=. If those words aren''t there, the meta tags will
need to be added. And fifth, how popular
are you? Search engines use your site''s popularity to help determine
your ranking in their lists. Discover how popular your site is by
typing "free link popularity check" into any major search engine like
Google, Yahoo or MSN. You will now see a list of all the sites that are
linked to yours. If you don''t have many links with highly ranked sites,
this isn''t helping your popularity. It''s time to go on a popularity
quest! Check the rankings of any site you want to link to. If it''s
ranked fairly highly, then you my want to contact that site and ask if
you can link to it. This type of co-operation between sites is what
drives quality sites upward. You need to take advantage of this online
strategy.
If you do the work described above, you should
experience improved search engine rankings, and see your website
handling significantly more targeted traffic. About the Author Learn how to start and run your own online home business and receive full private training from experts: Expert Home Business Training
