ELECTRIC SCOTLAND

Website Review by: arthurchappell

ABSTRACT - ELECTRIC SCOTLAND http://www.electricscotland.com/ A very authoritive and comprehensive website on al aspects
of Scottish culture and history. This is possibly one of the finest educational resources that the Internet provides. Every region and period of history covered in close detail, Highland, Lowland, and Hebridean islands alike get coverage. Here you can see the true story of William (Braveheart) Wallace and Robert The Bruce. Here are extensive assessments of the campaigns of the Marquis Of Montrose and Biographies of the Earls of Argyll, and many other notables are given, with lots of cross-references to related pages. Alastair MacDonald in the Civil Wars of the 1640’s. Battles from Tippermuir to Culloden are covered in detail. Every town from Dundee to Dunfermline gets close attention, and there are histories and studies of every Scottish clan from Campbell to Ogilvey, with their correct tartans and other emblems carefully assessed. The site is clearly set out to encourage genealogy and tracing of family history. It shows a sense of national pride lacking in other British Isles who have no sites comparable to this. Electric Scotland is a treasure trove of material for the social historian and tourist. It proves how invaluable the Internet can be to academic study if presented professionally. Few books on Scottish history could give such a rich treasure trove of information in one single place as this, and the site does have links to book references for further study. Poets like Robert Burns and William McGonagal get their mentions, there are pages of trivia, a study of Scottish ex-patriots and the history of religion, with Catholicism, Presbyterianism, and Anglican beliefs in conflict causing much trouble for the Scots throughout their history. Here is the Internet at its very best. Hopefully we will one day see Electric England and electric Ireland and Electric whales sites too.
