The article presents the comparative analysis of work carried out in the field of wireless communication for next generation i.e. 4G.It is compared with its previous generations. 4G’s features are presented followed by the proposed access techniques (i.e. MC-CDMA, OFDM). Higher layer issues viz., Mobility Management, Call Admission Control, QoS, are discussed with the challenges facing by 4G in conlusion.
Since early eighties when 1G wireless mobile communication was introduced there are lot of developments in this field in last three decades. The 1G mobile communication systems used analog frequency modulation where as the subsequent mobile systems use digital communication techniques. The 3G wireless systems which are just getting introduced in the world markets offer considerably higher data rates, and allow significant improvements over the wireless systems. The 3G Wireless systems were designed for improved services like voice, paging interactive multimedia including teleconferencing and internet access and variety of other services. As, these systems offer wide area network (WAN) coverage of 384 kbps peak rate and limited coverage for 2 Mbps, 4G wireless system is under development so as to provide broadband services which is one of the major goal for next generation wireless systems.
