As its title may suggest, this
website is a tribute to the much loved British television comedy series As Time Goes By.
Starring Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer, As Time Goes By opens when its two main characters (Jean Pargetter and Lionel Hardcastle) meet up again after not seeing each other for 38 years, because Lionel had to leave Britain to fight in the Korean War. What follows is the comedy and drama that results when two lovers try to rekindle their relationship after a gap of nearly forty years. I personally adore this program with its loveable characters, witty dialogue and sophisticated world view, and I could watch the series repeatedly and never tire of it. Full credit goes to writer Bob Larby for maintaining a high level of
quality over a period of fourteen years, and full credit goes to the cast for maintaining a high level of acting quality over that period as well.
This
website is a well presented summary of As Time Goes By; its main strengths are probably its details of episodes and its descriptions of the main characters. While the site is as good, and probably better than other sites of this type, it cannot really do justice to the program because most websites inevitably don't do justice to the programs that they are about. However, that is not to slight the creators of this site - they have done an excellent job in summarising a program that has seventy episodes at a consistently high level of writing and acting quality. Apparently the site has had over half a million visits since it was created in 1999 - this is testament to the popularity and enduring appeal of As Time Goes By. If you are interested in the program, then this website is a good starting point.
